Sonic Drive-In at night with lit canopy, drive-in stalls and patio tables

About this project

The photo shows a Sonic Drive-In at night: the lit Sonic sign on the canopy, the red-and-yellow stall markers, the menu boards and order stations at each stall, the patio tables under the canopy and the kitchen building behind them.

Sonic is one of the restaurant brands on the Harrison Construction client list. A drive-in is a site-driven build: the stalls, the canopy, the lanes and the lighting are coordinated with the kitchen building and the order system, which is why pre-construction and the civil work matter as much as the interior.

Harrison builds restaurants & qsr projects as tenant finish-outs, freestanding buildings and remodels, with pre-construction first. More about restaurants & qsr construction.

What a build like this involves

  1. Site work: the drive-in stalls, the canopy foundations, drive lanes, lighting and paving
  2. The canopy structure, the kitchen building and the patio
  3. Kitchen rough-in, hood and fire suppression, grease interceptor, walk-in coolers and the order-stall wiring
  4. Signage, menu boards, exterior lighting and the brand’s color and finish standards
  5. Permits with the city, the health authority review and the final inspections
Why it matters to the ownerA drive-in is as much site as building: stalls, canopies, lanes and lighting have to line up with the kitchen and the order system. Pre-construction is where that coordination happens, before the slab is poured.
